Lights

After looking at my Runner you probably notice that I like to light up the streets.

For headlights, fog and corner lights I chose to go with PIAA Platinum Super White. These type of bulbs create bright white light instead of yellow produce by original bulb. They look very good and light output was good on dry pavement. However during a rain I was disappointed by performance, the light output seems to disappear somewhere. Another thing about PIAA bulbs is that they don't last as long as a regular halogen bulb. Anyway, I Had to find a solution for a rainy day and I decide to get PIAA 520 Ion Crystal Fog lights. For the driving beam I choose IPF 900 very powerful lights. They equipped with 130W super white bulb and literally change night into day.

Custom Side Markers

I always liked the look of side markers on Mercedes, BMW and many others European cars. Unfortunately US model of 4Runner doesn't come with side markers so I deiced to do a little project. I started looking at deferent side markers and couldn't find anything that I like. Than one day I sow Mercedes ML320 side markers and I really liked them. I went to a dealer and was surprised when they told me that each will cost $5.16 including bulb. This was 5 times less than any other after market side marker I looked at. So I picked up 4 of them (2 for my dad's T100). I made a template, made a mark on the fender and using a dremel machine to cut the hole. Than I applied a primer on to the edge of the fender and that was it. I run wires from existing turn signal so they would work together.

Back Up Lights

Backing up at night can be difficult sometime especially if you have tented windows. I have a Limousine tent on my rear and side windows so it's very dark there at night. 4Runner's back up lights don't produce enough power to light up a space behind the Runner. I order a set of Hella Optilux fog lights. After installation the visibility increased but the light was projected directly to the ground so the space behind rear window was still dark. I was determine to find a better solution to this problem and one day at local 4WD shop I saw very nice looking IPF back-up lights. Unfortunately they don't come in pairs so I had to by 2 sets. The come with the wiring, switches and good instruction.
